Deimante Bruzguliene

Deimante Bruzguliene is a Lithuanian-born artist based in the United Kingdom, specialising in highly detailed wildlife, animal and figurative portraiture. Working primarily in soft pastel and graphite, alongside acrylic and mixed media, she combines technical realism with a strong sense of character, emotion and presence. Animals have been central to Bruzguliene’s artistic practice from an early age, with wildlife — particularly big cats — becoming a defining subject within her work. Through carefully built layers, intricate mark-making and close observation of light, texture and expression, she seeks to portray more than physical likeness. Her work has received international recognition through exhibitions, competitions and publications, including the London Art Biennale, David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation’s Wildlife Artist of the Year, the British Art Prize, Artists & Illustrators, Artist Portfolio Magazine and Artfinder Editors’ Picks.

My work is driven by a deep fascination with animals and the individuality, emotion and presence they possess. Through detailed wildlife and animal portraiture, I aim to capture more than physical appearance — I seek to reveal something of the character and spirit of each subject. Working primarily in pastel, alongside acrylic and mixed media, I build my works gradually through layers of colour, texture and fine marks. Light, fur and expression are central to my practice, with particular attention given to the eyes. While realism forms the foundation of my work, I am increasingly interested in combining precise observation with expressive mark-making. Through my work, I hope to create a moment of connection between subject and viewer — encouraging us to pause, look more closely, and recognise the individuality of the animals with whom we share our world.
